Specification of USB Recorder
     Telephone recording system is widely used, for call recording, in a variety of commercial, industrial and services applications, with unique value in recording real scenes and increasing working efficiency. There are many typical scenarios of Telephone recording system’s applications. For example: communication recording in business negotiations, recording and playback personal calls, call recording in service industry -- such as hotlines, customer complaint, paging service, telephone sales, financial and securities services etc, recording the commanding and dispatching in industries—such as electricity, traffic, transportation, and production, communication recording in key posts, phone call recording in public security, fire alarm and lawful interception and so on. USB Recorder Box provides an innovative solution for telephone recording solutions, by integrating PSTN telephone and IT platform of PC, enable a personal (or specific working purpose) telephone recording system being quickly built up with low investment. This USB Recorder Box is market competitive with characters of being low-cost, easy to install and use, high reliability with low environmental requirements, high telephone and recording quality, compact and refined design with powerful functions.
This USB recorder box is with the below major functions and features:
1. By simply connecting the PC and PSTN landline telephone with the USB recorder box, a powerful personal (or for specific working purpose) telephone recording system is set up, as shown in Figure 1.
2. USB plug and play, no need to install drivers.
3. Provide a powerful software for telephony recording management (Green software for Windows OS).
4. Support menu Popup when calls are incoming or outgoing. Record a complete call logs with all calls numbers, automatically recording the telephony communication, thus to enable convenient communication recall and recording playback with high-fidelity sound recording.
5. Digital recording technology applied, supporting 64 KBPS,mp3 and 8 KBPS compression format, to save storage space in PC.
6. Provide automatic gain recording function to ensure that voice of communication in both sides are sound loud, balanced and clear.
7. Provide a powerful phonebook function, telephony recording management function and integrated memo note features, with exporting function to convert phone log into EXCEL forms.
8. Support dual standards call number detection (FSK and DTMF), automatically adaptive capability, with Caller ID accuracy rate up to larger than 99.9%.
9. High Resistance design in telephone interfaces, to ensure no impact to the original telephone system and no impact to communication between the two sides.

Application of environmental requirements

         (1) One PSTN telephone line and a common telephone
         (2) A PC with USB ports (either desktop or laptop computer).
         Operating System of PC: Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows vista.

Installation:

1. USB recording boxes have two phone ports. Connect one of the ports to PSTN line, and connect another port to the telephone, with the telephone line supplied with the product.
2. Turn on the PC. Using the USB cable, supplied with the product, to connect the USB ports of both USB Recorder Box and the PC.
3. In case of first time using and connecting the USB Recorder Box with PC, the Windows OS of PC will automatically install the USB driver. Please be patient to follow the instruction of Windows to finish the installation, and then restart the PC.
4. Installed the recorder management software (in the CD-ROM accompanying with the product package). As the self-extracting software is so-called green software, it can be extracted directly to any file directory in PC.
5. USBRecorder.exe in the software directory is exe file of the management software for USB Recorder Box. Double-click it to run the software .
Hardware LED indicator:
     Upon the USB Recorder Box is connected to PC, LED will show on for one seconds, and then extinguished. When the software stars to run, the LED of the pickup and ringing will be ON, and the LED of ring-off and hook-on will be OFF, the line-off LED will flash. (Note: When the telephone line was pulled out, seeing from the LED display, there will be events showing as a pickup to line-off. This is a normal display.)
     The management software of USB Recorder Box have a main program menu, which is composed of three submenuas: Operation, Backup and Help, as shown in Figure 2, Figure 3 and 4 below.

The content of each region icons are illustrated in Figure 5.

     Click on the main menu "operation -> system settings," or in the functional area click on the "system settings" The System setting is composed of "General Settings" and "voltage settings" two components.

(1) General Setting

     General settings interface is shown as in Figure 6. Users can adjust in accordance with preferences settings, and save the setting by click "OK" button.
Notes:
a) For outgoing call, the recording starts from the 7th second after dialing by default.
b) For incoming call, the recording starts from the time of pickup by default.
c) The time to identifying outgoing call number can be modified. The way is to select its check box, and change the parameter to a number between 4 and 20.
d) In case the audio coding rate choice is "eight times compression (8 kbps)", it is needed to install speexw.exe as in CD supplied with the product for playing audio files .
e) if "MediaPlayer" is chosen, when playing audio files, the Windows OS will automatically choose the MediaPlayer to play record item.
f) if "USB audio players" is chosen, the software will automatically select MPlayer.exe as the player g) Default chose "Use AGC On Record",AGC is automatic gain control which adjust recording Volume as right range. h) The default record directory is current directory of soft,you also select dir to click "rec dir". i) "write log" is to save software log file. j) "Popup Number When Call In" is to display phone number,name and company name in a mini window. which is installed in the software directory.


(2) Voltage Setting

     To meet the complex environment of telephone lines, the management software supports smart phone lines voltage measurements function. With this feature, the voltage parameter can be automatically adjusted, to meet the telephone line environment, following the wizard in the submenu of “Voltage Setting”. Management software needs to detect the call state by detecting telephone line voltage value. Under normal circumstances, the line DC voltage for hang up is 48 V, and drops to 6V when phone is picked up. Therefore, USB Record Box sets the pick threshold value as 18 V, thus line voltage greater than 18V will determine the state of hang up, and contrary to be pick state. However, in actual lines environment, the value of DC voltage lines will be very different. For some scenes of actual installation, the line pick up voltage may be more than pick threshold, or hang up voltage is less than the threshold, which will lead to error detection of call states in software. In this case, it is required for the user to adjust the voltage setting by entering the voltage settings page.

     Click on the "pick threshold setup wizard" button, and in accordance with the Figure 7, 8 and 9, the pick threshold will be automatically corrected to match the actual linecircumstance. The management software can thus work well. In actual use, if the software can not detect well the phone pick up and hang up, it is recommended to firstly check the cable connection of telephone lines is loose or not, and then try to re-setthe pick threshold value following the above method. In general, the problem can be solved.


(3) Dial up Setting

     Hardware V3.0 or V3.0 upwards support Dial-up function,lookup hardware version number at menu "help--about". Setting local area code in order to know this fixed telephone number part of local area code.Due to mobile number is increaseing,this database cann't include new phone numbers.User can add this new phone number to database by Click on "Operation -> fix mobile Area code" filling in mobile and area code.
PBX Outgonging prefix setting and IP telephone setting,chosing "PBX Outgonging prefix setting", according to setting mode auto adding and deleting prefix to phone number. A letter 'p' delay 1 second,the prefix may be a 'p' or more 'p' to delay a few time.User can consult underside mode setting.
(A) No group telephone user(beeline telephone)
     ★ telephone direct dial-up setting mode(show next figure,Beijing local area code is 010)

     ★ dial-up long distance with IP setting mode(show next figure,Using 17909 illuminate this setting )

(B)Group telephone user(extension,Adding prefix "0" or "9" to call exterior line)
     ★ dial-up without IP (show next figure,out prefix code "9" )

     ★ dial-up with IP (show next figure,out prefix code "9")

(1)Add Contact

     Click on "Operation -> Add contacts", or in the functional areas click on "Add Contact", as shown in Figure 10, you can add a contact name and phone number. Multiple telephone number can be filled, separated by commas. Contact can belong to one existing group, or to a new group. If you do not enter or select the group information, then the added contact will belong to the "unclassified group." Besides, right-click the group in the telephone directory page can also add contacts.

(2)Modify or Delete Contact

     Double-click in the phone book or right-click Contact name in Phone book page, select "Edit users Information " as shown in Figure 11, you can edit contact information
     To delete Contact information, right-click on the contact’s name, and select "delete this contact”.
To delete Contact group, right-click on the group (except for unclassified group), select" Remove the group "will delete the name of the group, and the Contacts within this Group will automatically classified as in "unclassified group". As long as all the contacts in the "unclassified group" are deleted or regrouped completely, the unclassified group will automatically disappear from the list.

(3)Backup and Restore Phonebook

     To facilitate users to backup and import contact information, the phonebook can be made a backup. The method is: Select "backup" menu, select "backup phone book" to backup phone book. While, in the "backup" menu, select "Restore the phone book" and then select the backup version of phonebook, the original contact information can thus be restored.

(4)Export and import Phonebook

     In the "backup" menu, select "Export of telephone directories for Excel", the phone book will be saved as Excel format for viewing the full information of all contacts.select "Import of telephone directories from Excel", the phone book will be add from the excel phonebook .

(1) Add Remark

     In the course of a call, according to Figure12 shows, some important information can be added in the call record. The software will automatically pop-up a "editorial calls Remarks" dialogue Box, by selecting the check box, in the "General Settings" submenu, of "Automatically pop-up Remarks during incoming calls" and "Automatically pop-up Remarks during outgoing calls".

(2) Search and Replay Call Record

     Click on the main interface "operation -> enquiries call records",or in the functional areas click on the "call for record", the call records query page will appear as shown in Figure 13.
a) In the query area, there are "Today’s call" button and "the latest phone" button, and in the left side of phone type, there are buttons of "all call", "incoming call" and "outgoing call" and "Missed call".
b) In the display area, the last call displays at the top. Maximum 30 call will be displayed in the so-called "The lasted Calls List”.
c) "Advanced Search" can be also used to search previous call records. It is easy to search matched calls based on a variety of conditions, including the time, searching type, user name, phone number and remarks, etc.
d) Double-click the selected call record, the recorded call communication audio file can be clearly replayed.
e) Right-click on any one of the records, you can play audio record, edit remarks, delete record, export file, or add the phone numbers and other as a new contact. In the editing of remark, you can arrange its information, even to find its DTMF number. If multiple select several records, batch delete of them can be processed.
f) Call records can also be exported through "xls export".
g) To click "ID","name","Record time" etc Records can be sort by size,name,date and so on.

(3) Backup and Recall Call record

     In the main interface "backup" menu, select "backup recordings", the page is as shown in Figure 14. The default backup time is the last seven days, which is adjustable. If there are backup records in the current backup directory, they will be displayed in the "Existing backup" area. Click the "Start Backup" button will complete the backup. If select the check box of "Add the current backup to a previous backup record" next to the backup time, the current backup will add into the displayed backup. On the other hand, if the current directory has no backup, please do not the abovementioned check box. Otherwise, following the click of "Start backup ", there will pop up an error message as "Does not exist backup”.

     In the main interface "backup" menu, select "for data backup," or in a backup directory Double-click BSH.exe, there will pop up a window of "Query backup record", as shown in Figure 15. In this query window, click on the "operation", select "add a backup directory," can add a backup directory. Double-click the mouse or right-click on "Query current backup information, there will be a pop-up window as shown in Figure 16. In accordance with matching conditions such as time, name, number, remarks etc, click on "Search", backup sound recordings can be found easily.


     First of take up telephone handle,Second of in phonebook display area mouse right click user name,select "Dial",then chosing a phone number which help you dial up phone number as shown in Figure 17.Right-click on any one of the records,select "Replay" to dial up the phone number.

A.Run USBRecorder.exe, there is a red error message of "USB devices wrong." in the product state area.
The possible reasons and solutions are:
   1. USB Record Box and PC USB interface is not properly connected. Please try to re-inserted the USB port to ensure that no loosening.
   2. USB driver in PC OS is not properly installed or USB driver has not been activated, please refer to the user manual of Windows to recover USB installation.
   3. PC operating system is not correct, please double check to ensure the PC OS is one of the Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows vista.
   4. If the above reasons is no applicable, right-click "My Computer" of Windows and select "management". In computer management, click on the "equipment management", following by the "human input devices" and "voice, video and game controllers" page. Check whether there is such display of the equipment as the below figure. If there was no such equipment, and PC-USB host controller is surely correct, then it can confirm the USB Record Box is with hardware failure, and needs to be replaced.

B.Fail to receive incoming phone number (CallerId)
The possible reasons and solutions are:
   1. The telephone line did not open the CND service. Thus you need to apply for opening the service in the telecommunications office.
   2. Pick up the phone too fast. Please try to pick up the phone after it rings twice.
   3. The telecommunication service fails to sent the Caller ID signal.
   4. If the above reasons are not applicable, please restart management software.

C.Attentions in plugging and inserting USB Recorder Box
   1. Upon the USB Recorder Box is connected, it is recommended to avoid frequent plug out and insert in a quick way.
   2. In case there were servaral USB Recorder Boxes are connected to a PC, restart the management software is required if one USB Recorder Box is plug out.

D.How many USB Record Boxes can be connected to one PC simultaneously ?
   In theory, a computer can connect maximum 27 USB Recorder Box at the same time. In practical applications, USB Recording software supports up to eight, and this version USBRecorder.exe (version) only supports one USB audio box.

E.The management software of USB Recorder Box can’t detect telephone pick up, hang up and phone ringing
   Please refer to the system setting up and that on the voltage settings. Follow the wizard to reset the pick-voltage threshold to solve this problem.

F. A pop-up message on recording equipment errors, Please restart management software. If the error message still pop up, please restart the computer.

G.There is no recording time and recording files.
   The default setting to start record in outgoing call is 7 seconds after dialing. If it is preferred to start recording from the time of pick up phone, select "system settings" in the "General Settings" and "Record start from pick up phone during outgoing call". If there is no dialing after pick up phone, the software will automatically delete the recording files.

H.When you plug in the USB device may be change your default audio device.
   If the default audio device is changed,you cannot hear sound of music and movie and so on. please chose a audio device as default audio device in control panel.Nextfigures show how to change default audio device in vista .
